Tool-shaped objects

I came across an interesting article on something the author calls 'Tool-shaped objects': Products or activities that allow you to feel like you're being productive or making progress while engaging with them, but which don't really improve your situation in any tangible way.

Consider Farmville.

FarmVille is a command-and-control interface. No matter where you click, your farm will expand, your crops will grow, and the number will go up. The only input is your time, the...

It can be difficult to deal with a world where it feels like every week there's some new terrible thing going on. A steady diet of negative news and sentiment has negative effects on ones mental health, and with the way humans are wired, we tend to pay more attention to negativity.

In these circumstances, it can help to get some positivity once in a while, which is the purpose of the Good News youtube channel. Each month, they release a video on the good things that...

For a nice evening: 20 Small Mazes

20 Small Mazes is a a small free steam game in which you have to solve 20 small mazes, each of which has some distinctive twist or mechanic that makes it different. In this way, it's a real showcase of creativity. The visual style is also nice.

A few of them might take a little bit of thinking, but none of them are outright difficult. If one is giving you trouble, you can push it to the side and work on...

It's always fascinating to me how people manage to use acertain medium as a framing device in an entirely different medium.

For example: A video that portrays itself as a supercut of tiktok videos from a specific account, except that account is entirely fictional. It's about a catholic priest named Father Mark, who acts like a stereotypical dubious influencer: Challenges, podcasts, scams, etc

12 Thousand Users & A Grand New Update

By the 5th of August 2026, Cyberspace reached 12k registered accounts.

This coincides with update 3.3, which brings us not just a web-based terminal view of cyberspace, but also the ability for users to load and share their own programs for that terminal.

Truly, the wonders are unceasing.

There's this group in Japan that turns old CRT monitors, barcode scanners and fans into musical instruments. See here for an example. There's a bunch of other highly aesthetic videos on their channel

They call themselves ELECTRONICOS FANTASTICOS.

And here's a video of them playing New Order with those instruments.

Very cool!

Did you know: All landliving bony animals descend from a shared four-limbed ancestor

In the distant past, a species of fish evolved from wholly aquatic to a mixed form, and from them descended amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. That is why most of them have four limbs (4 legs / 2 legs + 2 arms or wings), except for the few exceptions like snakes which transcended the need for legs.

Whales and Dolphins are aquatic mamals, but descend from landliving animals that returned to the sea. Perhaps the...

What kinds of external integration features would you be interested in?

By "external integration", I mean ways in which other sites or programs can interact with cyberspace.

A basic one that already exists for public posts is the ability to mirror your posts on cyberspace onto your own personal website. (See the wiki for how that can be done.)

Is there anything you would like to see, or that you think might be interesting?

Wiki patchnotes:

  • Added info on Commands in cIRC and C-Mail to the tutorial
  • Added information on the Desktop and Sacred views of Cyberspace to the 'Fun and Games' page.
  • Added new page for external integration options, such as the cyberspace RSS feeds. These are also useful if you want to mirror your public posts to your own website.

I previously wrote about how I sent my PC for repairs, and how the older laptop I used instead was broken and wouldn't even turn on. Well, after opening it up, I managed to get it to where it does turn on... but the screen remains black. There was already a problem before where sometimes the screen wouldn't get signal, and I suspect that in opening up the hull, I might have exacerbated the problem.

Bah.

I'll have to try and get my hands on an expernal monitor to check if that still works. If not......

Alright, drive is encrypted with Veracrypt and computer is sent in for repairs.

Until I get it back, I only have access to a much older and slower one.

Can't say if that will make me post more due to less distraction, or less due to the computer being to annoying to use at all.

:(

I'm backing up my data since I'm sending my PC in for repair, and it looks like I accidentally deleted an obsidian folder with some of my writing.

Not much, fortunately, but some that I was working on/planning to use soon.

Hah, I suppose in the grand scale of things, that's still not that unlucky compared to what it could have been...

Game Review > Paranormasight: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo

What is the game about?

Paranormasight is a horror/mystery visual novel set during a night (and day) in Honjo, where 9 people unexpectedly receive the power of a curse. Each of the curses is based on one of the '7 Mysteries' (of which there are actually 9), and each has the ability to kill another person so long as a specific condition is...

Some time ago I posted about going to a meetup and seeing free living bunnies in a park on the way. I went to another one in the same place today. I didn't see any on the way to, but they were there and closer to the path to the park on the way back. Unfortunately it was too dark to see clearly, but what was cute was that whenever they hopped about, you could seem a white flash from their tails/behinds....

Some short & free games for your Sunday

Went through my steam library to see whether I had any more of these small gold nuggets to share, and I did indeed fine a few. Enjoy!

Dr. Langeskov, The Tiger, and The Terribly Cursed Emerald: A Whirlwind Heist

You open a game to play it. There's just one small problem: Someone else is already playing the game, which puts the producer into an awkward situation when you arrive.

This game is most similar to The Stanley Parable.

Duration: ~20...

Been a while since I publicly advertised it, so I wanted to mention it again for the newbies:

Cyberspace has a Directory of User Pages, which is a list of users personal websites with short descriptions on the wiki.

If you would like to see your own site added to it, let me know in a reply to this post, or in a DM, and I'll do so.

This is distinct from the 'Webring', which is simply an automatic listing of all the...
